According to Football Insider, Leeds are preparing a move for Scotland international Angus Gunn, who is expected to leave Norwich on a free transfer this summer.
The club is reportedly seeking a replacement for Illan Meslier, who has recently lost his spot to Karl Darlow.
However, Gunn may not be the answer. Despite outperforming expectations last season, saving 4.55 more goals than expected (xG), his form has dramatically declined.
This season, under manager Johannes Hoff Thorup, Gunn has allowed 6.40 more goals than expected—making him the Championship’s worst-performing shot-stopper in that metric.
Given his downturn in form, Gunn may not be a reliable option as Leeds aim to reestablish themselves in the Premier League.
Leeds Eye Premier League-Experienced Alternative
In contrast, Leeds are also reportedly interested in Sam Johnstone of Wolves, per The Sun on Sunday (April 20, page 57), as relayed by MOT Leeds News. A £10 million bid is said to be in the works for the England international.
Johnstone has made just seven appearances this season for Wolves but remains a proven Premier League performer with 73 top-flight games under his belt for West Brom, Crystal Palace, and Wolves.
He’s currently behind Jose Sa in the pecking order at Molineux, which Leeds could capitalize on.

Johnstone brings valuable Premier League experience, which could be vital for Leeds.
Unlike Gunn, whose Premier League exposure is limited and inconsistent, Johnstone has consistently played at the top level and proven himself.
Statistically, he has also performed better than both Gunn and Meslier in the Premier League, conceding fewer goals per game and showing more consistency as a shot-stopper.
His experience, reliability, and availability make him a far more suitable candidate for Leeds’ ambitions.
As promotion looms, sealing a deal for Johnstone could significantly strengthen Leeds’ goalkeeping department heading into the new season.
