Fans baffled after spotting what Matheus Cunha did during Wolves’ warm-up ahead of Man Utd clash

Man United Fans Baffled by Matheus Cunha’s Pre-Match Antics at Old Trafford

Manchester United supporters were left surprised by Matheus Cunha’s unusual behavior ahead of Wolves’ Premier League clash at Old Trafford on Sunday, April 20.

The match itself held little at stake, with both clubs comfortably clear of relegation and out of the European qualification picture. Still, Cunha managed to grab attention — both for his recent off-pitch comments and his actions during the pre-game warm-up.

Despite being Wolves’ standout player this season with 14 Premier League goals, Cunha has recently stirred controversy among the fanbase. Last weekend, he posted an Instagram story that read: “Time to be happy, I will follow my dreams, not yours… So stay cool.”

The post quickly circulated on social media, prompting backlash from Wolves fans, including the popular account TalkingWolves. In response, Cunha replied directly:
“Do you know what you want?
For people to not like me here, unfortunately, I’m going to the field to solve the problem of your favourite club.
I’m not here looking for alternatives to be someone important. Fans root for their own, they don’t create misfortunes all the time.”

Before Sunday’s match, two videos emerged from the warm-up session at Old Trafford. One clip appeared to show Cunha wiping turf onto his legs, while another showed him waving toward fans in the stands. Social media quickly lit up with speculation.

Reactions ranged from confusion to humor:

  • “It’s water, pal,” one user commented.
  • “Some kind of pre-game ritual, I think,” another suggested.
  • A third quipped: “He’s desperate to join us [Man Utd].”

Fueling the rumors, The Athletic recently reported that Manchester United are considering a summer move for Cunha. The Brazilian’s current contract reportedly includes a £62.5 million release clause, signed in January.

In a March interview with The Guardian, Cunha hinted at ambitions beyond Wolves:
“I had a lot of offers, but I wouldn’t have felt right leaving in the middle of the season when we were in a tough spot.
Now we’re close to achieving safety. But I’ve made it clear—I want to take the next step, fight for titles, and aim higher. I know I have the potential.”
