Bukayo Saka Shares Update After Injury Scare in Arsenal’s Win Over Ipswich
Bukayo Saka has addressed fans on social media following an ankle injury he sustained during Arsenal’s dominant 4-0 victory over Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
Goals from Gabriel Martinelli, Ethan Nwaneri, and a brace from Leandro Trossard secured an easy win for the Gunners, but a worrying moment came in the first half when Saka was brought down by a dangerous challenge from Ipswich defender Leif Davies.
Davies lunged into the back of Saka, his studs making contact with the England star’s ankle. The 25-year-old was shown a red card by referee Chris Kavanagh for a reckless challenge that was deemed to have endangered an opponent’s safety.
Saka appeared in considerable pain but managed to continue until he was later substituted for Nwaneri.
Post-match, Saka was seen with heavy strapping on his ankle and wearing a cooling boot, walking with a noticeable limp.
Despite the concern, manager Mikel Arteta provided a reassuring update.
“The referee made the right call. [Saka] was a bit sore, but it’s nothing serious, so that’s positive,” Arteta confirmed.
When asked if he was concerned when Saka went down, Arteta admitted: “I was, especially with how few players we have available right now.
It’s always a worry when the foot is planted like that, but thankfully he’s fine.”
Saka later posted to Instagram to ease fan concerns, sharing a smiling photo with the caption, “Happy Easter,” and later another with a red heart emoji alongside teammates Martin Ødegaard and Trossard.
With Arteta downplaying the injury and Saka in good spirits, the winger appears likely to be available for Arsenal’s upcoming Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace on Wednesday.
That match will be followed by a highly anticipated Champions League semi-final first leg against PSG on Tuesday, April 29 at the Emirates.
Arteta also praised Saka and Ødegaard’s performances against Ipswich: “They were both excellent. Bukayo didn’t score but had a hand in a few goals. Martin too – overall the team was really strong today.”
Looking ahead to Palace, Arteta hinted at squad rotation: “We’ll need to make four or five changes. The players want to keep playing though—they’re used to this rhythm of games every three days.
We have no match this weekend, so we’ll assess how everyone recovers and prepare for Wednesday.”
