Two Teams Relegated from the Premier League — One More Set to Fall
Two clubs have already suffered the drop from the Premier League this season, leaving just one spot left in the relegation zone.
Southampton, while relegated in record time, managed to avoid going down as the worst team in Premier League history by earning 11 points—matching the infamous tally set by Derby County in the 2007/08 season.
Leicester City have also been confirmed for the drop after their 1-0 loss to Liverpool last weekend.
As always, the bottom three teams—positions 18th to 20th—are relegated to the Championship, while the top three teams from the Championship (two automatic and one via play-offs) will take their place.
Last weekend, Leeds United and Burnley locked in their automatic promotions back to the top flight. The final spot will be decided through the Championship play-offs.
Currently, Ipswich Town sit 18th on 21 points, trailing West Ham in 17th on 36 points and Tottenham just above them on 37. With 40 points typically seen as the safety benchmark, Ipswich are teetering on the brink.
With five games remaining, Ipswich can still earn a maximum of 15 points, giving them a potential total of 36.
That means if West Ham secure just one more point, Ipswich will be mathematically relegated.
Still, there’s a slim chance Ipswich could pull off a miracle.
If they win all five of their remaining matches—including challenging fixtures against Newcastle and Brentford—and West Ham lose every remaining game, Ipswich could survive, provided they also overtake West Ham on goal difference.
It’s a highly unlikely scenario—but in football, anything’s possible.
