Daniel Farke’s Future at Leeds in Question Despite Promotion – Darren Bent Floats Shock Replacement
Despite guiding Leeds United back to the Premier League, Daniel Farke’s position as manager is still under scrutiny.
The German coach secured automatic promotion on Easter Monday following a commanding 6-0 win over Stoke City and Burnley’s 2-1 victory over Sheffield United, which mathematically sealed Leeds’ return to the top flight.
However, doubts remain about Farke’s suitability for the Premier League.
Critics point to his previous stints with Norwich City, where he struggled at the top level—winning only five games in his first season and getting sacked just 11 matches into his second attempt.
While former Leeds boss Simon Grayson and 49ers Enterprises executive Paraag Marathe have voiced support for Farke—praising his relentless drive—Darren Bent believes the club might be open to a change if things go south quickly next season.
Speaking on TalkSPORT, Bent compared Farke to Chris Wilder and Scott Parker, both of whom have Premier League experience and, in his view, would likely be given more time if their teams struggled.
“Scott Parker’s done incredible work. Chris Wilder too—they’ve proven themselves in the Premier League.
Wilder even led Sheffield United to a ninth-place finish. Farke’s record is less convincing,” said Bent. “Sure, he can say he got Leeds promoted and deserves a chance, but if results go badly, he might only get 10 games. Wilder or Parker might get 20.”
Could Mourinho Be Tempted?
Bent also threw a curveball into the conversation—suggesting José Mourinho could be a surprise candidate for the Leeds job.
Currently managing Fenerbahce, Mourinho is rumored to be eyeing a return to the Premier League and may be interested in a high-profile club near the lower end of the table.
Bent believes the size, culture, and passionate fanbase of Leeds United could be a perfect fit for the Portuguese manager.
“Jose might look at Leeds and see something special,” Bent said. “There’s that ‘everyone hates us’ mentality at the club—it just fits his personality. It feels like a match made in heaven.”
If Leeds were to part ways with Farke, Bent believes it would need to be for a manager of Mourinho’s stature to win over the fanbase and players—ruling out names like Sean Dyche as too underwhelming in comparison.
