“Ipswich Star Set for Surprise Return – McKenna’s Update Has Fans Buzzing
Ipswich Boss Confirms Conor Chaplin Fit for Increased Role in Premier League Run-In
Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has confirmed that forward Conor Chaplin is now fit and available to play more minutes as the Premier League season draws to a close.
Chaplin had been sidelined since late December after suffering an MCL injury, with his last start coming in a 4-0 defeat to Newcastle United on December 21st. Following that, he appeared as an unused substitute against Arsenal and Chelsea before stepping away from the squad to continue his recovery.
He made his return to the bench on April 2nd in Ipswich’s 2-1 home loss to Wolves, playing the final nine minutes of the match. He also made a short appearance in Sunday’s game against Arsenal, bringing his total minutes played in 2025 to just 10—prompting concerns over his readiness.
However, McKenna has reassured fans that Chaplin is now in a strong position to contribute more significantly in the final stretch of the season.
“He’s ready and training really well,” McKenna said ahead of the Arsenal match. “With MCL injuries, there can sometimes be lingering effects, but Conor’s pushing through that and remains a key part of the squad.
“It’s tough to reach peak match sharpness after being out for so long, especially at the end of a Premier League season, but if there’s anyone who’ll give everything to get there, it’s Conor.
“He’s in a great place and ready to play his part.”
