Miron Muslic Believes in a Great Escape as Plymouth Argyle Eyes Crucial Clash with Preston
Miron Muslic remains a firm believer in miracles as he gears up his Plymouth Argyle side for a pivotal Championship showdown against Preston North End at Deepdale this Saturday.
The Pilgrims, currently sitting at the bottom of the table, trail safety by three points and a significant goal difference. Yet Muslic remains determined to ensure his team still has a fighting chance when they host already-promoted Leeds United on the final day at Home Park.
That fighting spirit could spell trouble for Preston, who aren’t safe themselves. Paul Heckingbottom’s side sit 18th in the table, just three points above the drop zone with two games left — at home to Plymouth and away to promotion-chasing Bristol City.
A worrying run of one win in their last 13 league games, including three straight defeats, has left Preston in a precarious spot. Their last victory came back on March 15 against Portsmouth.
Meanwhile, Plymouth head into the weekend full of belief and momentum. Under Muslic, the players are rallying behind the possibility of pulling off a dramatic survival. Their 3-1 win over play-off hopefuls Coventry City on Easter Monday marked their third victory since Preston’s last win.
With strong away support expected at Deepdale, Muslic is eager to give the travelling fans something to cheer about — and something to fight for on the season’s final day.
Muslic: “Why Not Believe in Miracles?”
Speaking after their win over Coventry, Muslic praised his team’s execution and intensity.
“I’m incredibly proud of this performance,” he said. “We had a solid plan, but the players delivered it perfectly. We went in physical, aggressive, intense — lots of duels. Coventry don’t like that, and we used it to our advantage.”
He added: “If the game is open, they have the edge. But we showed from the first whistle that we believe. We’ve now beaten Norwich, Sheffield United, and Coventry — three big sides — and taken nine points from those matches.
“There are still six points left. Why not keep going? Why not go for the miracle?
“We’re still in the fight. That’s the energy we had in the dressing room. We did our job today — we can’t control what happens elsewhere, but we can control how we play. Preston is next, and when Leeds come to Home Park, we want that game to mean something.”
Since taking over from Wayne Rooney on January 10, Muslic has guided Plymouth to 23 points from a possible 57. In comparison, Preston have managed just 21 points from 54 in the same stretch.
