Alan Shearer Believes Premier League is Stronger with Leeds United’s Return
Premier League all-time top scorer Alan Shearer believes the competition is enriched by the presence of Leeds United.
In an interview with Betfair, the former Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United forward shared his thoughts, stating that the Premier League is elevated with Leeds back in the top flight.
Leeds have spent the past two seasons outside the Premier League after relegation in 2023.
However, they made a triumphant return this season, securing promotion with two consecutive 90-point campaigns.
They could even reach 100 points this year if they win their final two matches against Bristol City and Plymouth Argyle.
“Leeds are a massive football club with an incredible fanbase. I loved playing at Elland Road—not just because I had a good goalscoring record there, but also because of the atmosphere,” Shearer reflected, recalling his successful visits to the stadium.
In fact, aside from his home grounds at Ewood Park and St James’ Park, Elland Road was where Shearer scored the most goals in the Premier League.
“I think it’s great for the Premier League to have a club like Leeds in it. Their size, their passionate fans, and the energy they bring just add to the excitement of the league.”
Shearer also expressed his happiness for both Burnley and Leeds supporters, noting the positive impact of their returns.
How Leeds Can Win the Championship
To claim the Championship title, Leeds must match Burnley’s results in the final two fixtures.
Thanks to their superior goal difference, Leeds will secure the trophy with two wins, unless Burnley manages a 14-goal swing in their favor.
This makes the final match against Plymouth crucial for Daniel Farke’s side to finish the season as champions.
