Jack Clarke Opens Up About His Future and Life at Ipswich Town
Former Sunderland star Jack Clarke has expressed his strong desire to stay at Ipswich Town, stating there’s “nowhere” he’d rather be playing next season.
The 24-year-old winger made the move from the Stadium of Light to Portman Road at the start of the campaign.
While his time with Ipswich has had its ups and downs, he’s contributed three goals and six assists across 31 appearances in all competitions. Despite his efforts, he’s still searching for his first Premier League goal.
Recently, Clarke has been linked with a possible summer move to Dutch side PSV Eindhoven, who competed in this season’s Champions League.
However, the winger has downplayed the speculation, reaffirming his commitment to Ipswich even as they face the looming threat of relegation.
Speaking to the East Anglian Daily Times, Clarke said:
“I’ve got no ambition to be anywhere else. If we are relegated and something happens over the summer, it’ll probably be out of our hands – but there’s nowhere I’d rather be playing football next season.”
He also backed comments from teammate Axel Tuanzebe, who suggested that Ipswich is on the path to becoming one of the country’s bigger clubs.
“I think everyone here feels the same way,” Clarke said. “That’s what the ownership is aiming for.
Whether going back down was ever part of the plan or not, I don’t know. But there’s a lot of optimism about where this club is heading, and I think we’re better prepared now than we were when we got promoted.”
Reflecting on his debut Premier League season, Clarke admitted it’s been both challenging and rewarding.
“You don’t really know what to expect,” he said. “You find yourself standing across from world-class players in iconic stadiums, and it’s a bit surreal.
Even if we haven’t won loads of games, it’s probably been one of the most enjoyable seasons of my career just because of the level we’re playing at.”
Sharing one memorable moment, Clarke said:
“Maybe star-struck isn’t quite the word, but when you’re in the tunnel next to someone like [Erling] Haaland, you suddenly realize how big these guys are.
You watch them on TV all the time, and then you’re standing beside them—it’s a bit of a shock.”
He concluded by saying the whole experience has been a valuable learning curve:
“You try not to get distracted, but it’s hard not to be aware of who you’re up against.
That’s all part of developing as a player. If we get another chance at this level, I think we’ll be better for it.”
