Junior Firpo’s Future at Leeds United Remains Unclear Amid Real Betis Interest

In an interview with Spanish outlet Marca, Firpo admitted that while he’s tried to stay focused on his football, he’s aware that talks may be happening behind the scenes—and he’s open to hearing from Betis.
“I didn’t want to get distracted. I know it sounds cliché, but it’s true,” he said. “But I know there are probably calls being made. I hope so—it would be recognition of the season I’ve had.”
Firpo has never hidden his affection for Betis and says a return is something he has always considered.
“Betis is home. I’m a Betis fan. Everyone knows that—it’s in my blood,” he added. “If you get the chance to play for clubs like Barcelona or Real Madrid, you say yes. You have to try.”
Reflecting on Barcelona and Looking Ahead
Firpo’s time at Barcelona was marred by instability, with only 14 league starts during a turbulent period for the club and the city.
“I was unlucky—those two years in Barcelona were chaotic,” he explained. “I arrived at my peak, but it didn’t matter.”
His early struggles at Leeds and the club’s 2022 relegation made their recent promotion even more meaningful. Now 28, Firpo is enjoying a strong run of form and may finally be headed for the fresh start—and the recognition—he’s long deserved.
