“Forget about it”- Simon Jordan Left Speechless by Rumoured Farke Replacement at Leeds – ‘You’ve Got to Be Joking
Speculation is mounting over Daniel Farke’s future at Leeds United, with the club’s chairman set to travel to the UK for decisive talks.
Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe is expected to fly into the country this week. He’s scheduled to attend the club’s penultimate match of the season against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday before holding important discussions with Farke regarding the manager’s future.
Despite ongoing rumours about a potential managerial change, internal sources at Elland Road insist Farke is expected to remain in charge this summer and into next season.
This remains the stance even though several names have been linked with the role in recent weeks, including Roger Schmidt, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, and Davide Ancelotti. Social media chatter has also revived talk of Steven Gerrard being a possible candidate.
Simon Jordan slams Gerrard to Leeds rumours
Steven Gerrard was previously connected with the Leeds job before Farke’s appointment in 2023. The former Liverpool captain, who has been out of work since leaving Saudi side Al-Ettifaq in January, also managed Rangers and Aston Villa in the past.
However, football pundit Simon Jordan dismissed the idea on talkSPORT, saying: “If you’re telling me that you bring in Steven Gerrard to manage the situation, forget about it. In no parallel universe does Steven Gerrard merit managing Leeds United into the Premier League.”
He continued, “He’s got no credentials. I don’t care what he won in Scotland. We’ve seen Gerrard in the Premier League with Aston Villa… if you bring in someone with proven Premier League experience, that’s a different conversation.”
Comparing Gerrard and Farke in the Premier League
While Farke’s record in the top flight is far from stellar, many at Leeds understand that his time at Norwich City was marked by difficult circumstances. Club officials reportedly aren’t overly concerned by his past Premier League results, believing he wasn’t given a fair chance.
In contrast, Gerrard had more resources and a stronger squad at Aston Villa but still struggled, winning only 13 of his 40 matches before being sacked.
Most Leeds fans appear to side with Jordan, viewing Gerrard as an unsuitable option. Still, nothing will be officially settled until Marathe and Farke meet to decide the path forward.
Leeds will wrap up their season away at Plymouth Argyle this Saturday.
