Tens of thousands of Leeds United supporters flooded the streets on Monday to celebrate their team’s Championship title and return to the Premier League, taking part in a jubilant open-top bus parade through the city.
Among those soaking up the celebrations was Josuha Guilavogui, who shared a heartfelt message about his time at Elland Road — a stint that appears likely to be his only season with the club.
The 34-year-old midfielder joined Leeds on a short-term deal in October after injuries to Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev left Daniel Farke short in midfield. Although Guilavogui played just 65 minutes across 16 substitute appearances, his off-field impact was significant. Nicknamed “Granddad” and “Uncle” by the club’s younger players, the veteran quickly became a beloved figure in the dressing room.
Monday’s parade, which Leeds City Council estimated drew around 150,000 fans — though many believe the true number was even higher — capped off an unforgettable campaign. Farke and his players received a hero’s welcome after clinching the title with a win at Plymouth Argyle.
After the celebrations, Guilavogui posted several photos on Instagram and penned an emotional tribute:
“I predicted a riot, and I was right. From day one, I knew we’d come back — back where we belong, in the Premier League. It’s a riot of love, pride, and belief. All these emotions point to one truth: Leeds United is an iconic club. I’m grateful. We are all Champions, Marching On Together.”
Future Uncertain for Guilavogui as Contract Nears End
With his contract set to expire in June, Guilavogui may have already played his final minutes for Leeds, having last featured off the bench against Bristol City. At 34, and with midfield reinforcements expected this summer, a renewal appears unlikely.
A recent social media post hinted at a farewell, showing a signed shirt from teammates filled with thank-you messages and good-luck wishes — a possible confirmation of his departure.
Having been a free agent for four months before joining Leeds, Guilavogui’s next move remains unclear. However, reports have linked him with a possible return to France, with Paris FC — part-owned by Red Bull — showing interest.
