Mateusz Klich jokingly dubbed Ethan Ampadu the “man of the match” for his lively role atop one of three open-top buses during Leeds United’s Championship title celebrations on Monday. With a microphone in hand, Ampadu embraced the festivities, helping lead the team through the city centre as more than 150,000 fans turned out to celebrate the club’s return to the Premier League.
The streets of Leeds were awash in white, yellow, and blue as Ampadu, the club captain, took centre stage—leading chants, hyping up the crowd, and even sparking a few talking points along the way. Among them, a playful hint about Junior Firpo possibly joining Real Betis and a call for Sam Byram to be given “two more years” at the club. He was also quick to clarify that his rendition of Natasha Bedingfield’s Unwritten wasn’t a dig at relegated Burnley.
Ampadu Praised for Commitment After Parade
Just a day after the parade, Ampadu was back in leadership mode, attending the club’s Academy Player of the Year Awards on Tuesday night. There, alongside Leeds legend Alex Cairns, he presented the Player of the Season award to Alfie Cresswell, younger brother of Charlie Cresswell, for his impressive performances with the U21s.
Former Leeds player Ben Parker, who hosted the event, praised Ampadu’s dedication: “Just 24 hours later and our captain is here at the Academy Awards, standing beside legends like Alex Cairns and recognising our future talents. It shows how united this club really is.”
Celebrations Continue as Leeds Players Head to Vegas
The party isn’t over yet for Leeds United’s squad. Fresh off earning promotion—and with it, a reported 50-60% pay increase—the players are now set to jet off to Las Vegas as a reward, courtesy of the club’s ownership group, the 49ers Enterprises.
While the players enjoy their well-earned break, the club’s hierarchy shifts focus to the upcoming transfer window.
