Don Goodman Doubts Jamie Vardy’s Move to Leeds United This Summer
Don Goodman doesn’t believe Jamie Vardy will make a move to Leeds United this summer after his departure from Leicester City.
Teamtalk reported last week that the 38-year-old striker has caught the attention of Leeds as they look to strengthen their squad during the transfer window.
Vardy confirmed he will leave Leicester at the end of the season, following the club’s relegation to the Championship.
Meanwhile, Leeds have secured promotion to the Premier League after winning the Championship title and may seek to add an experienced forward to support manager Daniel Farke’s squad.
While Goodman acknowledges that Vardy could be a valuable asset as an impact substitute in the Premier League—after scoring eight goals for a struggling Leicester side this season—he believes the forward is unlikely to join Leeds to be a regular starter.
“Jamie Vardy will have several options, but whether those options will be in the Premier League remains to be seen,” Goodman told Football League World. “I’ve heard Wrexham have been linked with him.
Despite Leicester’s poor season, he still managed to score eight goals and provide three assists in the Premier League.”
Goodman continued, “I can understand why Leeds might be interested in him, particularly if they were looking for someone to come off the bench.
But I don’t see Vardy moving to Elland Road with the expectation of being a regular starter in the Premier League.”
Leeds’ Promotion and Vardy’s Potential Role
Leeds secured promotion back to the Premier League at the second attempt, clinching the Championship title with 100 points and edging out Burnley on goal difference.
While Vardy’s form has declined in recent years, eight goals in a difficult season for Leicester is still notable.
Leeds may need a forward to help ensure their Premier League survival, but Vardy would likely only serve as a short-term solution.
Though the Leicester striker could contribute for a season or two as a squad player, his wages may not be justified given his age and potential further decline.
His stint at Leeds would likely be brief, making the investment less appealing for a long-term attacking solution.
