Sunderland Striker Wilson Isidor Praised as ‘Deadly’ by EFL Pundit Ali Maxwell
Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor has been described as “absolutely deadly” by EFL pundit Ali Maxwell after a standout performance in the Championship play-offs.
In the first leg of their semi-final against Coventry City on Friday night, Sunderland secured a 2-1 victory at the CBS Arena.
Isidor marked the occasion with a goal, his 13th of the season, while teammate Eliezer Mayenda also found the back of the net.
Isidor, 24, scored for the first time since February, ending a brief goal drought.
Maxwell, speaking on the Not The Top 20 Podcast on YouTube, shared his admiration for the French striker, saying: “He’s a player I really rate.
When he was scoring regularly, he got plenty of attention on the pod, but lately we’ve hardly mentioned him.
His lack of appearances, particularly after losing his spot to Eliezer Mayenda, shows how quiet he’s been. But he absolutely deserved to start this game against Coventry City.”
Maxwell continued: “Isidor is an intriguing striker for the Championship. He has incredible acceleration and loves drifting wide.
He’s a tricky dribbler in those areas, and when he’s in transition, he’s absolutely deadly, as we saw against Leeds earlier this season.”
A Promising Arrival for Sunderland
Sunderland signed Isidor last summer to bolster their attacking options. Initially brought in on loan, the 24-year-old’s move was later made permanent.
This season, he’s proven to be a valuable asset, showcasing his ability to find the net in English football.
Before joining Sunderland, Isidor came through the ranks at Rennes and Monaco before having stints with Lokomotiv Moscow and Zenit Saint Petersburg.
His experience at top clubs has made him a potent threat for Sunderland.
The former France youth international will be full of confidence following his goal against Coventry City, especially with his contract running until 2028 at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland’s Wembley Dream Still Alive
With a narrow 2-1 lead from the first leg, Sunderland are in a strong position to reach the Championship play-off final at Wembley.
However, there is still work to do as they head into the second leg with only a single goal advantage.
Sunderland’s form had dipped following the confirmation of their play-off spot, with a five-match losing streak before their win against Coventry City.
Despite that, the club has made progress under manager Regis Le Bris, who has impressed since taking the helm just over a year ago.
