Former Sunderland captain Lorik Cana has issued an inspiring message to his old club ahead of Tuesday’s crucial Championship play-off semi-final second leg against Coventry City.
The Black Cats go into the match at the Stadium of Light with a slender 2-1 advantage, having secured a vital away win at the CBS Arena last week thanks to goals from Wilson Isidor and Eliezer Mayenda.
With a place in the play-off final at Wembley now resting on the outcome of the return fixture on Wearside, Cana has delivered a heartfelt plea to his former side ahead of this high-stakes encounter.
What Did Lorik Cana Say About Sunderland’s Play-off Push?
Speaking to Sunderland’s official media, the 41-year-old Cana said: “Hello boys, Lorik Cana here, former club captain. Just a quick message to wish you good luck for the game.
I hope you draw all the positive energy from those around you – the club, the fans, everyone who believes in what this amazing club deserves.

Cana joined Sunderland from Marseille in 2009, captaining the team and winning the affection of fans before moving to Galatasaray a year later.
In his brief spell in England, he made 35 appearances for Sunderland and had a distinguished career with clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, Lazio, and FC Nantes. Cana also earned 92 caps for Albania.

Several other former Sunderland players have also expressed their support ahead of the play-offs.
Prior to Friday’s match against Coventry, former academy graduate Jordan Henderson shared his encouragement: “We are all behind you! Good luck, lads!”
Belgian goalkeeper Simon Mignolet added: “Good luck, boys. You, the club, the city, and especially the fans deserve to be in the Premier League! I’ll be supporting you.”
