Sunderland Book Championship Play-Off Final Spot Against Sheffield United

Sunderland are heading to Wembley after edging past Coventry City in a dramatic semi-final clash, setting up a high-stakes showdown with Sheffield United for a place in the Premier League.

The Blades secured their spot by defeating Bristol City in the other semi-final.

Le Bris: “A Frustrating Performance Despite the Result”

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Sunderland boss Régis Le Bris admitted that while the result went in their favour, he wasn’t entirely satisfied with his team’s performance across the 90 minutes.

“We looked a bit nervous in the early stages of the game,” Le Bris said. “In extra-time, we finally started playing our brand of football, and that was fantastic. But overall, it was frustrating.”

He added: “At 1-0 up at home in a semi-final, there were mixed emotions — we were caught between playing freely and protecting the lead. Once they equalised, we knew we had to go for it. That shifted our mindset.”

Le Bris praised both the players and supporters, saying: “They deserved this moment — to experience a night like this. And now we have a final to look forward to.”
