Everton are reportedly preparing a move to reunite David Moyes with one of his most trusted former players as they gear up for a major squad revamp this summer.
With 14 current players out of contract, the Toffees are expected to be active in the transfer market as they prepare for their transition to the new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium. A number of departures are likely, prompting a significant reshaping of the squad.
Midfield Reinforcements in Focus
The midfield is a key area that may require reinforcement. Both Idrissa Gana Gueye and Abdoulaye Doucoure are nearing the end of their contracts, while Orel Mangala—on loan from Lyon—has been sidelined with an ACL injury since January.
One name emerging as a target is West Ham’s Tomas Soucek. The Czech international was a standout signing for Moyes during his time with the Hammers, playing a pivotal role after joining from Slavia Prague in January 2019.
Soucek contributed to West Ham’s Europa Conference League triumph in 2023 and helped the team reach the Europa League semi-finals in 2022 and quarter-finals in 2024.
Soucek still has two years left on his contract at the London Stadium, but reports suggest West Ham could be open to offers due to financial concerns.
According to Claret & Hugh, although Everton haven’t submitted a formal bid yet, Moyes is expected to make a move soon.
The report also hints that Soucek is intrigued by the idea of a four-year deal at Goodison Park, which would take him to age 34.
A Key Piece for Moyes’ Vision?
Moyes has spoken publicly about the need to bring in “elite” talent to match Everton’s new home and ambitions of returning to European competition.
He holds Soucek in high regard, and the midfielder has remained productive this season with nine goals in 33 appearances for West Ham, despite the team’s struggles.
Soucek’s adaptability across midfield roles could prove vital if Doucoure leaves, offering Moyes tactical flexibility.
However, some Everton supporters may question the pursuit of a 30-year-old with limited resale value. Given his likely price tag, the club must weigh the benefits of immediate impact versus long-term planning.
