Dyche Reflects on Moyes’ Immediate Changes
Following his exit in January, Dyche has opened up about one of the first adjustments Moyes made upon taking over — and it’s something that surprised both players and staff.
During an appearance on the Stick to Football podcast, Dyche revealed that Moyes immediately removed his strict training ground dress code, which had banned items like snoods and white socks.
The players reportedly welcomed the change, with Carlos Alcaraz spotted wearing a snood shortly after the rule was lifted.
Discussing it on the podcast, Dyche explained:
“So, I come out and Moyesy says they can wear what they want. Not because he’s undermining me, but because he’s changing the feel. And it’s clever management.”
He continued:
“It’s really weird, I was just like, can we get on with it? Ashley Young was brilliant; he just got on with it.”
Though Dyche had his own approach — emphasizing intensity and discipline in training — he acknowledged Moyes’ shift was strategic, not personal.
Keane Supports Dyche’s Approach
Interestingly, Roy Keane backed Dyche’s original dress code, suggesting that small rules can help establish a culture of discipline.
“You’re also putting a marker down,” Keane said.
“You look at his shin pads and think, does that mean we’re going to win on a Saturday? Probably not, but you’re just setting a few standards.”

Dyche also reflected on his departure from Everton, admitting that the decision to replace him was the right one for the club.
He conceded that he had taken the squad as far as he could and had no prior warning about the club’s points deductions — one of many challenges during his tenure.
