Former Manchester United star and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has expressed his frustration after being blocked from covering Nottingham Forest’s Premier League clash with Chelsea this Sunday.
Forest are set to host Chelsea at the City Ground in a critical fixture as they chase a spot in next season’s Champions League.
Despite sitting in the top five for much of the season, their recent dip in form has left them seventh in the table, with their European hopes hanging by a thread.
A win could reignite their Champions League ambitions—just a year after battling relegation.
However, Neville won’t be in the commentary booth for the high-stakes match.
Reports from the Daily Mail indicate that Nottingham Forest requested Sky Sports to remove Neville from the broadcast lineup following a formal complaint about comments he made regarding the club.
The controversy stems from Neville’s public criticism of Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, who entered the pitch following a draw with Leicester City.
On social media, Neville called the action “scandalous” and suggested head coach Nuno Espirito Santo should reconsider his position at the club.
Neville took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice his disappointment:
“I was informed earlier in the week that I would be commentating at the City Ground on Sunday.
But yesterday, Sky Sports told me Nottingham Forest had denied me accreditation and stadium access. I had no choice but to step down from coverage.”
He added, “In 14 years of broadcasting, I’ve delivered both criticism and praise fairly.
This is the first time something like this has happened. It’s disappointing to see a historic club like Forest take this step.
While they are within their rights, it reflects broader issues surrounding the club in recent months.”
Neville concluded by wishing the team well: “I hope the coaching staff, players, and supporters achieve their Champions League dream.”
