“Patrick Bamford Hits Back at Leeds Fans After Social Media Storm – You Won’t Believe What He Said

Patrick Bamford Reflects on Social Media Struggles and Uncertain Future at Leeds United

Social media can be a powerful platform for any footballer, but Patrick Bamford has experienced firsthand how quickly it can turn sour—especially when results go against Leeds United.

The striker has endured some tough moments in a Leeds shirt, including high-profile missed penalties, which at one point even led to angry fans showing up at his home.

Now, in 2025, Bamford has developed a thicker skin and a new perspective on how to handle the pressure.

One such miss against Newcastle drew heavy criticism, adding to a list of difficult moments alongside matches against Arsenal and Stoke City—games many Leeds supporters view as turning points in recent seasons.

Though linked with a potential move to Wrexham, Bamford may still hold out hope for a return to Premier League action.

However, the 31-year-old is now entering the final year of his contract at Elland Road after seven years at the club.

Bamford Opens Up on the Impact of Social Media

Speaking on the Fozcast podcast hosted by Ben Foster, Bamford shared how social media used to affect him more deeply during his younger years.

“I think it’s the younger players who get caught up in it,” Bamford said. “When I was younger, it really used to get to me. I’d read something a fan said and it would stay with me.”

He added, “At Leeds, it’s always one extreme or the other—either sky high or rock bottom.

If you’re new to the club or still young, that pressure can be overwhelming. But I’ve been here for seven or eight years now. I’ve learned to tune it out.”

Bamford explained that early in his career, the buzz around social media made it hard to resist being active and engaged online. “It was all new—everyone was on it. But I’ve grown out of that. Now, I just don’t care as much,” he said.

Future at Leeds Hangs in the Balance

With his contract nearing its end and injuries continuing to limit his availability, Bamford could be nearing the end of his time at Leeds. He has started just one cup match all season and is reportedly one of the club’s top earners.

Although he’s shown flashes of his former self, fitness remains a concern.

His experience and leadership remain valued within the squad, but with Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph in the ranks—and potential new attacking signings this summer—Bamford’s role may continue to diminish.

He has expressed openness to a move abroad, possibly to MLS, and a summer departure could be on the horizon.

Helping Leeds achieve promotion again might be a fitting send-off for a player who’s had a significant impact during his time at the club, even if his future now appears to lie elsewhere.
