Colwill Outlines Chelsea’s Mindset Ahead of Final-Day Clash with Nottingham Forest
Levi Colwill has shared insight into Chelsea’s game plan as they prepare for a high-stakes final-day fixture against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
The Blues travel to the City Ground needing a win to secure their return to the Champions League.
While a draw could still see them qualify, that outcome depends on results elsewhere going in their favour.
Colwill on Chelsea’s Strategy for Forest
Chelsea currently sit one point ahead of Forest, and the two sides have only faced off a handful of times since Forest’s return to the Premier League in 2022.
Chelsea’s only win in that span was a narrow 3-2 victory at the City Ground last season—a result they’d be more than happy to repeat.
Forest, under Nuno Espirito Santo, are content to play without the ball and strike on the counter, meaning Chelsea will likely need to take the initiative and break them down—a task made more difficult by the absence of a recognized striker.
Tyrique George struggled in the central role against Manchester United, leaving manager Enzo Maresca with some tactical decisions to make.
Colwill, who is expected to start in central defense, stressed the importance of managing Forest’s counterattacking threat.
“It’s going to be a tough match in a tough atmosphere, but we know what’s at stake,” Colwill told Chelsea’s official website.
“We’ll need to work hard to break them down, and when chances come, we have to take them. We can’t give them opportunities to counter.”
“They’ll be pushing harder than usual because they need a win too. We need to be smart—know when to press and when to hold back. It’s about finding the right balance to make sure we come out on top.”

Just three days after facing Forest, Chelsea will fly to Poland to face Real Betis in the UEFA Conference League final on Wednesday.
Manager Enzo Maresca is reportedly frustrated that Betis have had an extra 48 hours to prepare for the clash.
Still, Chelsea will view this as a golden opportunity to capture their first trophy under the club’s new ownership.
While Betis will provide stiff competition, the Blues will be eager to make the most of their chance at silverware.
