Jordan Henderson’s Powerful Sunderland Promotion Message After Wembley Victory Sparks Massive Reaction
Former Sunderland favourite Jordan Henderson was at Wembley Stadium to witness the club secure promotion back to the Premier League.
The ex-midfielder, who made 79 appearances for Sunderland between 2008 and 2011 after rising through their academy, shared a message of celebration following the Black Cats’ triumph in Saturday’s Championship play-off final.
Henderson was among over 30,000 Sunderland fans cheering on Regis Le Bris’ side as they faced Sheffield United.
Although the Yorkshire team controlled much of the match, Sunderland mounted a late comeback, with Tom Watson scoring the decisive winner in the 95th minute to seal a 2-1 victory.
Shortly after the final whistle, Henderson posted an Instagram story showing the jubilant Sunderland supporters at Wembley, captioned simply: “Boom,” followed by an explosion emoji. He also tagged Sunderland’s official account, adding a red heart emoji.
Henderson remains a beloved figure on Wearside, having fulfilled the dream of many local fans by breaking into the senior team.
He won Sunderland’s young player of the season award two years running before making a £20 million move to Liverpool just before his 21st birthday.
He spent 12 successful years at Anfield, eventually becoming captain after Steven Gerrard and playing a key role in Jurgen Klopp’s side winning the Premier League for the first time in 30 years, along with the Champions League and numerous other major trophies.
In summer 2023, Henderson transferred to Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, managed then by Gerrard, but the move didn’t work out.
For the past 18 months, he has been playing for Ajax in the Netherlands.
There was uncertainty around a possible move to AS Monaco during the January transfer window, but he stayed put following criticism from supporters.
With his contract expiring in a year and the summer window approaching, Henderson’s future remains uncertain.
