Bruno Guimaraes Hints at Newcastle Stay After Securing Champions League Return

Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes has spoken about his future at the club following confirmation of the team’s return to the Champions League next season.

In his first year wearing the captain’s armband, Guimaraes has played a pivotal role in what many fans are calling one of the most memorable seasons in Newcastle’s modern history.

The Brazilian midfielder helped lead the club to a long-awaited trophy with their Carabao Cup win in March, and now to a top-four finish that guarantees a spot in Europe’s elite competition for the 2024/25 campaign.

Guimaraes has featured in all 38 Premier League matches this season, proving himself to be a consistent and inspirational figure in Eddie Howe’s squad.

His performances have only enhanced his reputation, leading to speculation over a possible move away amid reported interest from Manchester City, PSG, and clubs in Saudi Arabia.

But following Newcastle’s qualification for the Champions League, Guimaraes appeared to reaffirm his commitment to the club.

Guimaraes Looks Ahead to More Success with Newcastle

Newcastle’s financial position has improved significantly since 2024, when players like Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh were sold to ease PSR (Profit and Sustainability Regulations) pressures.

Now, with their books healthier and European football on the horizon, the Magpies are expected to bolster their squad rather than lose key players.

Speaking after Newcastle’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Everton, Guimaraes told Sky Sports News:
“I feel very well, feel unbelievable. It has been an amazing year—my first as captain, playing every game in the Premier League. I’m very proud of myself, the team, and the fans. Winning a trophy and now Champions League… what a season. We go again next year—we’re not stopping. We’ve won one cup, but we want more.”

His comments about next season suggest he plans to remain at the club and lead the team into their European campaign, putting to rest—at least for now—speculation about a potential summer departure.

Isak Also Expected to Stay Amid European Ambitions

Alongside Guimaraes, striker Alexander Isak’s future has also been a talking point. The Swedish forward has been linked with moves to top clubs including Liverpool, Arsenal, and Barcelona.

Back in January, reports claimed Isak would stay at Newcastle only if they qualified for the Champions League—a target they’ve now met. The club is reportedly preparing to offer him a new contract to secure his long-term future.

Although he had a quiet outing in the final match against Everton, Isak finished the season as Newcastle’s top Premier League scorer with 23 goals, underlining his importance to the team’s ambitions next season.

With both Guimaraes and Isak seemingly ready to stay, Newcastle look well-placed to build on this season’s success and make a serious impact in Europe.
