EXCLUSIVE: Rangers ready ‘big-name appointment’ after new manager statement

Rangers Nearing New Manager Appointment as 49ers Era Begins

Rangers and 49ers Enterprises appear to be closing in on a new managerial appointment, as the long-anticipated American-led takeover edges closer to completion.

Although the takeover at Ibrox isn’t yet finalized, progress behind the scenes has been swift, with a new manager expected to be confirmed before the week is out.

Steven Gerrard and Davide Ancelotti remain frontrunners for the role, with expectations high that a marquee name will usher in a new chapter in Govan.

49ers Looking to Make Statement with High-Profile Hire

The 49ers have a track record of pairing new ownership with fresh managerial appointments, as seen with Daniel Farke’s successful promotion campaign at Leeds United. Football finance expert Dan Plumley believes a similar approach is likely at Rangers.

While acknowledging that Rangers won’t have limitless spending power, Plumley suggests that a major managerial appointment could set the tone for the club’s ambitions.

“We know the impact Gerrard had during his previous tenure at Rangers, and there are other big-name candidates being considered,” Plumley told Ibrox News.

“This is about making a strong statement. Financially, they won’t be operating with a blank chequebook—either for the manager or players—but a bold hire would send the right message about their intentions.”

He added, “Scottish football’s financial constraints are real, but Rangers need to show ambition to get back to the top quickly. A high-profile manager would be a clear sign of that.”

Total Overhaul Needed at Ibrox

49ers representatives Paraag Marathe and Andrew Cavenagh understand that this is more than just a managerial switch—it’s the start of a complete rebuild at Ibrox.

Whether it’s Gerrard, Ancelotti, or another prominent name, the appointment must be followed by strategic signings, boardroom restructuring, and a renewed mentality to challenge Celtic’s dominance.

And time is of the essence. The new era must begin fast and decisively.
