Tottenham Emerge as Frontrunners for Leroy Sané Despite Arsenal and Chelsea Talks

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly moved ahead of their London rivals in the race to sign Bayern Munich star Leroy Sané, despite the winger’s agent previously holding discussions with both Arsenal and Chelsea.

Levy Handed Major Transfer Boost After Europa League Triumph

Spurs’ recent Europa League final victory over Manchester United has provided more than just a long-awaited trophy—it’s given the club a powerful edge in the summer transfer window.

Ange Postecoglou delivered on his promise to “always win silverware” in just his second season, ending a 17-year trophy drought at Tottenham. The win has also given chairman Daniel Levy a significant advantage in luring top-tier talent.

In addition to the prestige, the financial rewards are substantial. Tottenham are expected to bank around £38 million in prize money from their Europa League success, and their qualification for next season’s Champions League guarantees a minimum payout of £15.7 million—even if they fail to progress beyond the group stage (Sky Sports).

With Champions League football now confirmed, Spurs are a far more appealing destination for high-profile targets.

The club is reportedly shifting its recruitment focus towards more experienced players this summer (BBC), and their European credentials significantly boost those ambitions.

Leroy Sané Offered to Spurs as Transfer Interest Heats Up

One such target is Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sané, whose contract expires on June 30.

According to Sky Sports, Tottenham have now been offered the chance to sign the 29-year-old, who brings with him both world-class pedigree and proven Premier League experience from his spell at Manchester City.

Since moving to Bayern, Sané has registered an impressive 61 goals and 55 assists in 220 appearances, including 27 direct contributions in the Champions League—a testament to his quality at the highest level.

Given Tottenham’s relatively youthful squad, many see Sané as the kind of experienced, game-changing player who could elevate the team further in both domestic and European competitions.

Spurs Now Lead Arsenal and Chelsea in Sané Chase

Despite previous interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, Sport Bild reports that Tottenham have now overtaken both clubs in the race for Sané’s signature.

Talks with his agent, Pini Zahavi, had taken place with the other London sides, but Spurs’ recent success appears to have swung the momentum in their favour.

Negotiations over a contract extension with Bayern have reportedly stalled, in part due to Sané’s decision to hire Zahavi. The super-agent travelled to Munich this week for further discussions with the German champions regarding his client’s future.

However, Spurs may need to tread carefully. There is speculation that the renewed Premier League interest could be a strategic move to pressure Bayern into offering improved terms.

With that in mind, Daniel Levy will be wary of getting drawn into a lengthy and potentially fruitless transfer saga.
