Everton are actively searching for a striker this summer transfer window. With Armando Broja returning to Chelsea and Dominic Calvert-Lewin yet to commit to a new contract, manager David Moyes is under pressure to secure a new number nine. Everton Focus Turns to Continental Strikers, Nick Woltemade Emerges as a Key Target
Everton appear to be concentrating their efforts on signing a striker from Europe, with Nick Woltemade now firmly in their sights after missing out on Delap.
Standing at an imposing 6ft 6in, Woltemade scored 17 goals for Stuttgart in the Bundesliga last season and is valued at around £34 million. Stuttgart are keen to secure his services with a new contract, but a move to Merseyside remains a realistic possibility.
The 23-year-old has recently earned his first call-up to the German senior national team, and West Ham striker Niclas Fullkrug has spoken highly of him in a recent interview.
“Nick is a good friend of mine,” Fullkrug told DFB. “We stayed in touch even after we stopped playing together. In Bremen, we were often in contact and shared meals.
“He’s down-to-earth and intelligent, with qualities he’s shown for a long time. He needed the time and trust to showcase them, and he’s rightfully established himself at VfB Stuttgart.
“He brings many attributes that benefit a team. Both Nick and Deniz Undav are valuable number nines because they don’t just score—they also create chances for others. Every striker can benefit from that.”
Woltemade’s Impressive Stats Back Up His Reputation
Woltemade’s game extends beyond just scoring goals, as Fullkrug pointed out. The 2002-born striker is an excellent playmaker, ranking in the top three percent for expected assists per 90 minutes among his European peers, according to FBref data.
He is also in the top four percent for progressive take-ons, highlighting his confidence and ability to carry the ball forward.
Data suggests Woltemade’s style resembles that of Alexander Isak, so if he can replicate even half of Isak’s success at Everton, it would represent a significant signing for the Toffees.
