Leeds United Yet to Make Key Signings as Nikola Krstovic Emerges as Top Target
Leeds United’s new sporting director, Adam Underwood, is still waiting to make his first major move in the transfer market, with the club urgently needing reinforcements ahead of their return to the Premier League.
Chairman Paraag Marathe has secured £150 million for summer transfers, and the club has already identified four key areas to strengthen under manager Daniel Farke in hopes of boosting their chances of staying in the top flight.
The challenge is a steep one — none of the promoted teams over the last two seasons have managed to avoid relegation. However, pundit Alan Shearer believes that trend could soon be broken, with Leeds potentially leading the way.
To do that, Leeds need a proven striker — and one name high on their radar is Nikola Krstovic of Lecce.
Krstovic Nearing Lecce Exit After Standout Season
Reports suggest Leeds are competing with some of Serie A’s biggest clubs for the signature of Krstovic, who impressed in Italy last season. The Montenegrin forward was instrumental in keeping Lecce in the top division, scoring 11 of their 27 total league goals and assisting five more.
With the transfer window open, speculation around Krstovic’s future has intensified. As reported by Roma Press, the striker has hinted that his departure from Lecce is imminent, with a £25 million fee reportedly being discussed.
“I’m focused on the upcoming matches with the national team,” Krstovic said while on international duty with Montenegro. “After that, I’ll speak with those closest to me and decide what’s best. Right now, I’m closer to leaving the club.”
Other Striker Options on Leeds’ Radar
In addition to Krstovic, Leeds have also reportedly made direct contact with Hamburg over a move for Davie Selke, who fired his side to promotion in Germany with 23 goals in 33 games.
Other names being considered include Arnaud Kalimuendo — a former Leeds target who stood out in a disappointing season for Rennes — along with Kasper Dolberg from Anderlecht and Promise David from Union Saint-Gilloise.
Still, if Leeds are prioritizing top-tier European experience, Krstovic appears to be their most compelling option. However, with interest growing, Lecce may push for a higher fee before any deal is finalized.
