Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister Reacts to Dangerous Challenge from James Tarkowski
Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has opened up about a reckless tackle from Everton’s James Tarkowski that could have caused a serious injury during their intense 1-0 Merseyside derby victory in April.
The Argentine was stunned by Tarkowski’s facial expression as the Everton defender lunged into the dangerous challenge. Despite its severity, Tarkowski was only shown a yellow card and later apologized to Mac Allister after the match.
Speaking in an interview back in Argentina, Mac Allister said:
“It could have broken my leg twice! The fact he wasn’t sent off was unbelievable. If my foot had been planted, my leg would have snapped completely.”
He added:
“I knew the tackle was too strong as it happened, but what shocked me most was the look on his face when he went in.
I wouldn’t say he intended to break me, but I was lucky given how he committed to it.”
Mac Allister has been a key player for Arne Slot’s Liverpool as they secured the Premier League title this season. Unfortunately, injury ruled him out of Argentina’s recent World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Colombia.
This week, Mac Allister also named Manchester City’s Jack Grealish as the Premier League’s biggest provoker, admitting that players “feel like kicking him” due to his antics.
Reflecting on their first encounter when Mac Allister was at Brighton and Grealish played for Aston Villa, he said:
“Grealish — you feel like kicking him. But even when you do, he bounces straight back up, and somehow that makes you feel like you’re winning!”
