“I am delighted to bring Josh through the door here at Huddersfield Town because…”- Huddersfield manager Lee Grant Reveals the Real Reason Behind Huddersfield’s Surprise Josh Feeney Signing

Huddersfield Town Secure Loan Signing of Aston Villa Defender Josh Feeney for 2025/26 Season

Huddersfield Town have added to their defensive ranks by bringing in Josh Feeney on loan from Aston Villa for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign.

Since taking charge in late May, manager Lee Grant has prioritized reinforcing his backline. Feeney becomes the third defensive addition to arrive at the John Smith’s Stadium within a week, underlining Grant’s intent to build a promotion-contending squad.

Grant Explains Move for Feeney

Speaking to the club’s official website, Grant shared his enthusiasm about securing the 19-year-old centre-back.

“We’re really pleased to welcome Josh to Huddersfield Town,” Grant said. “He’s a talented young defender with a full season of League One experience under his belt. He’s already shown he can handle the physical and tactical demands of this level and is more than capable of taking the next step in his development.”

He added, “Josh’s hunger to succeed aligns perfectly with the mindset we’re cultivating here. We’re confident he’ll be an important part of our defensive group and help us push toward our goals.”

Grant also extended his gratitude to Aston Villa: “We appreciate Villa’s trust in us to continue Josh’s development, and we’re excited to get to work with him during pre-season.”

A Smart Move for Huddersfield

Feeney’s arrival appears to be a well-calculated move by Huddersfield, who are wasting no time making statements in the transfer market. The 19-year-old made 37 League One appearances for Shrewsbury Town last season, giving him a solid foundation and familiarity with the league’s pace and demands.

Villa clearly see long-term potential in Feeney and are using strategic loan spells to accelerate his growth. Huddersfield now hope to be the next club to benefit from his development.

If Feeney can continue progressing and “take another step up” as Grant suggested, he could become a crucial figure in the Terriers’ defence throughout a long season that will include over 50 fixtures across four competitions.

Feeney Excited for New Challenge

Feeney himself expressed his excitement at joining the club.

“I’m really happy to be here at Huddersfield Town,” said the defender. “The club has a positive energy and a clear ambition in Sky Bet League One. After speaking with the manager, I felt this was the ideal place for my next step.”

He added, “His vision and values really resonated with me. I’m ready to contribute, work hard, and hopefully help deliver some memorable moments for the fans this season.”
