Manchester City’s hopes of quickly finalizing a summer exit for Kyle Walker have taken a hit, according to local reports.
The England international is actively seeking new opportunities at the highest level ahead of the upcoming season.
However, a potential permanent move to AC Milan — where he spent the latter half of last season on loan — has fallen through.
Walker pushed for a departure from City midway through last season, citing a desire for a fresh challenge during what was a turbulent period for the club.
He joined AC Milan on a short-term loan, with the Italian side holding an option to buy him permanently for around €5 million.
Despite the initial interest, Milan opted not to exercise the purchase clause, reportedly due to concerns over Walker’s form, his age, and a late-season injury that raised doubts about the long-term value of the deal.
The defender did not travel with City’s squad to the United States for the FIFA Club World Cup, fueling speculation about his next move.
Everton has emerged as a potential suitor, but the situation appears far from advanced.
According to Joe Thomas of the Liverpool ECHO, Everton’s interest in Walker is currently minimal, and a move for the 34-year-old is not considered a top priority.
While the club acknowledges the need for a new right-back this summer, their pursuit of Walker is described as “tentative at best.”
Meanwhile, Manchester City are actively looking to strengthen their own right-back options. Their primary target is Newcastle United and England U21 defender Tino Livramento.
Although a deal wasn’t finalized in time for the Club World Cup, sources suggest City remains keen on securing his signature before the transfer window closes.
For now, both clubs are focusing on other priorities, with City competing in the United States and Livramento involved in the U21 European Championships in Slovakia alongside James McAtee.
