Jack Grealish Facing Uncertain Future at Manchester City Amid Transfer Interest
Jack Grealish appears to be on the fringes at Manchester City and is increasingly linked with a move away this summer.
Despite being a key part of City’s treble-winning side in the 2022–23 season, the England international has seen his role diminish significantly.
Grealish, who joined City from Aston Villa in a record-breaking £100 million move in 2021, struggled for game time during the 2024–25 campaign, starting just seven Premier League matches.
He was also left on the bench for the FA Cup final loss to Crystal Palace.
Now, the 28-year-old is attracting interest from several clubs. Everton are reportedly keen on securing him on loan, while Tottenham Hotspur and Serie A champions Napoli are also said to be monitoring his situation.
Guardiola Explains Grealish’s Club World Cup Omission
Speaking ahead of City’s FIFA Club World Cup clash against Wydad AC, manager Pep Guardiola addressed the decision to leave Grealish out of the tournament squad.
“He had a conversation with the club, and we mutually agreed on what’s best for him,” Guardiola said. “Jack is a fantastic player. His limited minutes last season were purely my decision.
The club and Jack were honest with each other, and we all felt it was better for him to stay behind, reset, and hopefully rediscover the form he showed during the treble-winning season and at Aston Villa.”
Guardiola emphasized Grealish’s importance during City’s historic 2022–23 campaign. “Without him, achieving the treble would have been much harder.
But over the past two seasons, his playing time has dropped. He needs to rediscover that hunger to play regularly and show the talent we all know he has.”
When asked if this situation pointed to a potential departure, Guardiola replied: “I don’t know. Right now, the decision is for him not to be here.
What happens next, we’ll see. If nothing changes, he’s still a Manchester City player and will return.”
Everton’s Interest and Financial Challenge
Everton are expected to have a busy summer transfer window. With eight players already having left following a 13th-place Premier League finish, including key midfielder Abdoulaye Doucouré, manager David Moyes is looking to strengthen his squad.
The wide areas are particularly thin after loan players Jack Harrison and Jesper Lindstrom returned to their parent clubs.
At the moment, Iliman Ndiaye and Dwight McNeil are Moyes’ only senior options on the flanks.
While Grealish would be an ideal reinforcement, his reported £300,000-per-week wages pose a significant obstacle.
Even contributing a third of that salary—around £100,000—would be a stretch for the Toffees.
However, Moyes has publicly stated his desire to bring in top-quality players as the club prepares to move into the new Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Grealish, when at his best, fits that bill perfectly and brings considerable Premier League experience.
