Paul Mullin Set to Leave Wrexham as Club Eyes Striker Reinforcements
Paul Mullin’s time at Wrexham appears to be drawing to a close following a difficult second half of last season, in which the striker struggled for game time and failed to make an impact.
Mullin made just a single appearance after January and was effectively frozen out by manager Phil Parkinson, who later explained that the forward had simply fallen down the pecking order at the Racecourse Ground.
Mullin, for his part, has spoken out, admitting he doesn’t understand why Parkinson lost confidence in him.
With his departure now looking all but certain, reports suggest Wigan Athletic are in ongoing discussions to sign the 29-year-old, potentially on a free transfer.
Mullin, once a fan favourite, could now be set for a fresh start elsewhere.
Meanwhile, Wrexham have already begun preparing for life after Mullin.
The club has signed Ryan Hardie and is expected to pursue at least one more forward this summer — particularly with Ollie Palmer’s future also uncertain.
Four Strikers Linked with Wrexham This Summer
Jamie Vardy
Veteran striker Jamie Vardy is available on a free transfer after leaving Leicester City.
Throughout the year, the 38-year-old has been linked with a sensational move to Wrexham.
However, no concrete developments have emerged, and interest from MLS clubs — along with potential Premier League opportunities at Leeds United or Crystal Palace — could see Vardy look elsewhere.
Joe Gelhardt
Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt has long been on Wrexham’s radar.
Following Leeds’ return to the Premier League, Gelhardt is expected to go out on loan again, with his wages proving too high for many clubs to secure a permanent deal.
Transfer insider Graeme Bailey has recently played down Wrexham’s chances of landing the 22-year-old.
Patrick Bamford
Another Leeds striker, Patrick Bamford, is also expected to move on this summer after falling out of favour.
The 31-year-old, who has one England cap, brings significant Premier League and Championship experience.
Wrexham have shown consistent interest in Bamford, and with his availability likely, they could make a serious push to bring him in.
Callum Robinson
Cardiff City forward Callum Robinson is another possible target for Wrexham.
Following Cardiff’s relegation to League One, Robinson — who scored 12 goals in 34 Championship games last season — is attracting attention.
Preston North End, one of his former clubs, have also entered the race for the 30-year-old, who joined Cardiff from West Brom for £1.5 million in 2022.
