Leeds United Ramp Up Transfer Activity with £29m Bid for Serie A Striker
Leeds United’s summer transfer window is now in full swing, with the newly-promoted side showing no signs of slowing down.
While the recent arrival of Felix Nmecha boosts their attacking options, Leeds are actively pursuing further reinforcements—most notably, Fulham forward Rodrigo Muniz.
Leeds Eye Alternative After Muniz Rebuff
Leeds had targeted Muniz as a key addition, but their £32 million bid was swiftly rejected by Fulham. With the London club standing firm, Leeds have begun shifting focus, aiming to strengthen their front line elsewhere.
According to Sky Italia, via Sport Witness, Leeds have now submitted a substantial offer—believed to be in the region of £29 million—for US Lecce striker Nikola Krstovic.
However, while Leeds appear serious in their pursuit, convincing the Montenegro international to make the move to England could be a challenge.
Krstovic is reportedly open to staying in Serie A and may hold out for a domestic transfer, though no Italian clubs have registered interest at this stage—potentially giving Leeds the upper hand.
Krstovic: A Stronger Option Than Nmecha or Muniz?
Despite the signing of Nmecha, Krstovic could represent an immediate upgrade for Daniel Farke’s side.
If Fulham remain unwilling to negotiate over Muniz, Krstovic stands out as an attractive and more cost-effective alternative.
Last season, Muniz and Nmecha scored a combined 11 league goals—with the Brazilian accounting for eight of those.
Krstovic, by contrast, netted the same amount on his own in Serie A for a struggling Lecce side. He also added to his tally in Coppa Italia action, highlighting his consistency across competitions.
While Krstovic did benefit from more starts, his numbers speak for themselves.
Not only did he record more goals and assists, but he also outperformed both Nmecha and Muniz in key metrics like duels won and big chances created.
A Proven Goal Threat
Krstovic proved vital for Lecce in their battle against relegation, scoring 11 of the team’s 27 league goals—over 40% of their total.
His influence helped them narrowly survive in 17th place, underlining his ability to perform under pressure.
At £29 million—around £3 million less than Leeds’ rejected offer for Muniz—Krstovic could be a far more logical choice.
He’s already been praised for his “hunger for goals” by former Lecce boss Roberto D’Aversa, and that kind of mentality may be exactly what Leeds need as they prepare for Premier League survival.
