Dyche Warns Everton: Strikers Are Hard to Replace
With Calvert-Lewin’s contract set to expire on June 30, time is running out if Everton hope to keep him.
While some supporters wouldn’t be upset to see him leave, given his struggles last season, Dyche believes Calvert-Lewin is worth holding on to. Speaking to talkSPORT, he highlighted the difficulty of finding quality strikers in the current market.
“He’s still got plenty to offer,” Dyche said. “He’s not old – I think he’s 27 or 28. If you can get him going, he’s a serious option.”
Dyche admitted he isn’t involved in current talks but understands why Everton want to keep him: “Strikers are hard to find. If you can keep him fit and motivated, he has the potential to be a top striker.”
Everton Missed Out on Gyökeres
In the same interview, Dyche revealed that Everton made an attempt to sign Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres, who has since excelled at Sporting CP. Unfortunately for the Toffees, he quickly became too expensive to pursue.
Fans Remain Divided Over Calvert-Lewin
Dyche’s comments are perhaps unsurprising given his close working relationship with Calvert-Lewin. But not all fans agree with his assessment.
The striker has managed just 10 Premier League goals over the last two seasons, and his ongoing injury issues have been a major concern.
