West Ham Continue Squad Reshuffle as Nayef Aguerd Nears Exit
West Ham United have already seen five first-team players leave the club this summer, along with loanees Carlos Soler and Evan Ferguson returning to their parent clubs. However, the departures may not be over yet.
Key players Mohammed Kudus and Michail Antonio are also being linked with moves away, as the Hammers look set for a significant squad overhaul.
One player expected to depart is Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd, who spent last season on loan at Real Sociedad.
The 29-year-old enjoyed a strong campaign in Spain, making 36 appearances across all competitions and earning recognition as Sociedad’s top performer, according to Sofascore.
In May, talkSPORT reported that Aguerd had expressed his desire to leave West Ham permanently, with Real Sociedad initially seen as his most likely destination.
Sociedad Move in Doubt After Defensive Signing
However, Aguerd’s hopes of returning to Sociedad now appear slim following a new development. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the La Liga club has reached an agreement to sign Brighton defender Igor Julio.
The Brazilian, who is also a left-footed centre-back and two years younger than Aguerd, seems to have filled the role Sociedad may have earmarked for the Moroccan.
Meanwhile, West Ham reportedly turned down a potential swap deal proposed by Juventus, which would have seen Daniele Rugani head to the London Stadium in exchange for Aguerd.
The Hammers are believed to be seeking around £20 million for the former Stade Rennais defender.
Although this would represent a financial loss on the €35 million fee paid for him in 2022, the club may consider it a reasonable deal given Aguerd’s intention to leave and the need to generate funds for new signings.
