Yunus Musah Transfer Drama Takes Another Twist as West Ham Reignite Interest
The ongoing Yunus Musah transfer saga, involving West Ham United, Napoli, and AC Milan, has taken yet another unexpected turn—one that could play right into West Ham’s hands.
For a while, it seemed certain the American international was heading to Napoli in a £21 million deal, much to West Ham’s frustration.
The Hammers had reportedly made a last-minute approach for Musah earlier in June, only to see him inch closer to a move within Serie A.
But in a surprise development, talks between Napoli and Milan collapsed. While disappointing for the Rossoneri—who are eager to offload Musah as they reshape their midfield under returning boss Massimiliano Allegri—the collapse has given renewed hope to West Ham.
AC Milan sporting director Igli Tare confirmed that Musah remains available for transfer, stating that the 22-year-old doesn’t fit Allegri’s vision for the team.
Milan have now turned their focus to Ardon Jashari of Club Brugge, another player previously linked with West Ham.
Speaking to Tuttomercatoweb, Tare explained:
“Musah is an excellent player, but we’re seeking profiles that match what Mr. Allegri wants. He doesn’t fit those characteristics, so we’re exploring other options in midfield, as well as up front, on the wings, and in central defence.”
This news may be welcome to West Ham manager Graham Potter, who is seeking a more athletic and versatile midfielder to anchor his rebuild at the London Stadium.
Musah—once compared to Paul Pogba for his strength, dynamism, and ability to drive forward—appears to fit the mold perfectly.
Although Potter previously passed on the chance to sign Croatian midfielder Martin Baturina, Musah offers the physical edge and positional flexibility Potter seems to prefer.
While West Ham’s top target remains Nigeria international Raphael Onyedika—valued at £20 million—sources suggest that the player favours a move to the Premier League over joining Milan. Personal terms reportedly won’t be a stumbling block either.
Musah, meanwhile, represents a solid alternative. Having come through Arsenal’s academy and captained England at youth level before switching allegiance to the U.S., he’s already racked up 47 international caps and valuable experience in La Liga and Serie A.
Steve Cooper, his former youth coach with England, spoke glowingly of Musah back in 2020:
“He’s a great kid—outgoing, respectful, always smiling. But what really stands out is his aggression on the pitch and Pogba-like athleticism. He’s a player who drives past defenders with power and belief.”
Whether West Ham go all in for Musah or press forward with Onyedika, one thing is clear: the door is open for a move, and the Hammers may be poised to benefit from Milan’s shifting transfer plans.
