Cristian Romero Edges Closer to Atletico Madrid as Spurs Prepare for Life Without Defensive Star
Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cristian Romero is attracting strong interest from Spain, with Atletico Madrid pushing hard to secure his signature this summer.
According to DSports, Romero is “increasingly close” to joining the Spanish giants. Atletico have reportedly submitted a bid worth €55 million, with an additional €10 million in performance-related add-ons.

In terms of replacements, Spurs may not need to look far. Brentford’s Nathan Collins could be a ready-made solution. The Republic of Ireland international led the Premier League in blocks last season and ranked among the top in aerial duels won.
The 23-year-old has impressed at multiple clubs and thrived under current Spurs boss Thomas Frank during their time together at Brentford — a relationship that could ease his transition to North London. Collins possesses the ideal blend of aggression, composure, and reliability that Spurs will need in the post-Romero era.
If Tottenham are forced to let Romero go, acting quickly and strategically in securing a replacement like Collins could help them maintain stability in defence.
