Ipswich Town are being encouraged to bring back Swedish midfielder Jens Cajuste this summer, despite the 25-year-old appearing close to a move to Turkish club Besiktas.
Cajuste made a strong impression during his loan spell at Portman Road last season, making 30 appearances and scoring once, even as Ipswich were relegated from the Premier League.
His performances earned him wide support from fans—he narrowly missed out on the Supporters’ Player of the Year award to Liam Delap by just 36 votes.
While a transfer to Besiktas looked imminent—with the Turkish side agreeing a €1 million loan deal with Napoli, including a €6.5 million option to buy that becomes mandatory after 15 appearances—talks have reportedly stalled.
Cajuste has yet to give final approval, opening the door for Ipswich to make a late attempt to hijack the deal.
Lee Hendrie Backs Cajuste Return
Former Aston Villa and Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie believes Ipswich should act quickly to re-sign Cajuste, calling it a straightforward decision as the club prepares for life in the Championship.
“This would be a big coup for Ipswich,” Hendrie told Football League World. “Anyone who’s had Premier League experience, as he has, can really help when dropping down a level.”
Hendrie emphasized the value of adding top-flight experience to a Championship squad and praised Cajuste’s potential and familiarity with the club.
“He’s 25, full of potential, and already proven he can perform in an Ipswich shirt. That makes him a great signing.”
Key Midfield Role and Contract Considerations
Cajuste featured heavily in Kieran McKenna’s midfield setup, often playing a pivotal defensive role. Given his experience and age, the Swedish international remains a valuable asset for a club aiming for an immediate return to the Premier League.
However, the financial structure of any potential deal will be crucial. Ipswich’s original loan agreement with Napoli included a €13.5 million obligation to buy if they stayed in the Premier League—a clause rendered void by relegation.
In contrast, Besiktas’ offer is far more affordable, potentially giving Ipswich a chance to match or slightly improve upon it.
