With Everton’s pre-season tour just hours away, the club is under increasing pressure to step up its summer transfer activity.
David Moyes, who has already overseen two pre-season matches, has seen his side find the net just once—a worrying sign ahead of the new campaign.
The 62-year-old manager is reportedly frustrated with how the summer has unfolded so far and has been vocal about his transfer needs in recent interviews.
Although the Friedkin Group has provided Everton with a £100 million transfer budget, the club’s recruitment drive has been slow to gain momentum.
Reinforcements are needed across the squad, and attention has now turned to a promising young talent: Adam Aznou.
Aznou Emerges as Key Target Amid Full-Back Search
Moyes has been pushing for new full-backs for months, and it finally appears to be a club priority. One name gaining traction is Bayern Munich’s Adam Aznou, who could provide strong competition for Vitaliy Mykolenko at left-back.
The 19-year-old Moroccan-Spanish defender has already addressed his future, offering Everton some hope of securing a deal.
Speaking to Spanish Twitch streamer Gerard Romero, Aznou said:
“My future is uncertain. I want to play. If I don’t get minutes at Bayern, we’ll have to look for a solution.”
This admission opens the door for a move, especially as Everton can offer something Bayern may not: regular first-team football.
Mykolenko Needs Competition
Mykolenko has made it clear he wants to remain Everton’s starting left-back, and while he had a steady 2024/25 season, the lack of genuine competition in the role made it a comfortable run for the Ukrainian international.
Bringing in a hungry, young prospect like Aznou would raise the standards and inject depth into the position.
Bayern’s Dilemma: Kompany May Not Offer Minutes
Aznou made his senior debut for Bayern in December 2024 before being loaned out to Real Valladolid. That spell gave him a taste of regular senior football, and it’s clear he’s eager for more.
However, under new manager Vincent Kompany, the pathway to minutes may be limited. Alphonso Davies is set to return from a long-term injury and will likely reclaim his place as Bayern’s first-choice left-back.
While Bayern view Aznou as a valuable future asset, the teenager’s desire for game time could tilt the odds in Everton’s favour.
The club hopes their new Hill Dickinson Stadium project will help attract talent, but ultimately, the offer of consistent playing time could be the key to landing Aznou.
