Nottingham Forest Make Offer for “Superb” Defender as Player Pushes for Move
Nottingham Forest have submitted an offer for highly-rated defender Pablo Maffeo, who is now pushing for a switch to the City Ground, according to recent reports.
Forest Active in the Market Amid Ongoing Gibbs-White Situation
With Anthony Elanga already departing this summer, Forest could face another setback if Morgan Gibbs-White also moves on.
The transfer saga has taken a new twist, as Gibbs-White did not travel with the squad for their pre-season tour in Portugal. Despite speculation, the club insists his absence isn’t related to a transfer.
Teammate Ola Aina commented on the situation:
“He’s staying professional. I’m not sure of the details, but he trained as usual and is keeping fit. We’re all professionals, and Morgan’s acting like one.”
If Gibbs-White does leave, head coach Nuno Espírito Santo will need to find a suitable replacement in midfield. At the same time, he’s aiming to strengthen the defence — and Forest’s pursuit of RCD Mallorca’s Pablo Maffeo appears to be gaining momentum.
Forest Table Improved Bid for Pablo Maffeo
According to Marca (via Sport Witness), Forest have submitted an increased offer for Maffeo, proposing €5 million plus €1.5 million in add-ons — roughly £6 million in total.
However, Mallorca are reportedly holding out for €8 million (around £7 million), and Forest are currently reluctant to meet that valuation.
This has caused the deal to stall for now. Still, Maffeo is said to be eager to make the move and is putting pressure on his current club in hopes of seeing the transfer go through soon.
Why Maffeo Could Be a Strong Addition
Maffeo brings a well-rounded game, showing strength in both attacking and defensive phases.
Over the past year, he has ranked in the 93rd percentile for successful take-ons and clearances per 90 minutes, suggesting he could be an asset on both ends of the pitch.
Previously described as “superb” by football scout Jacek Kulig, the Argentina-born right-back has been a consistent performer for Mallorca, making 30 La Liga appearances last season as the club finished 10th in the table.
That said, breaking into the starting lineup may prove challenging, with Ola Aina having delivered strong performances throughout the 2024–25 campaign.
While Maffeo would add valuable depth — especially with European competition on the horizon — missing out on the deal wouldn’t be a disaster for Forest.
