“Jack Clarke’s Heartfelt Message to Sunderland’s Rising Star Romaine Mundle After Dramatic Leeds Draw
Sunderland drew 2-2 with Jack Clarke’s former club, Leeds United, on Friday night.
After the dramatic late equalizer at the Stadium of Light, former Sunderland winger Clarke sent a message to current Black Cats star Romaine Mundle. Regis Le Bris’ team found the equalizer in the 97th minute, thanks in part to a bizarre mistake from Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier that allowed Sunderland to secure a point. This result ensures the Black Cats will stay at the top of the Championship table during the international break.
Mundle played the entire match against Leeds, showcasing a spirited performance on the left flank—a position he took over after Clarke’s summer move to Premier League side Ipswich Town. It seems the 23-year-old is still keeping tabs on his old club from a distance.
Following the match, Mundle shared a photo on social media featuring himself and Sunderland left-back Dennis Cirkin at the Stadium of Light. Clarke responded with three red heart emojis, showing his support.
Cirkin also reacted, commenting “Timeless” along with a clock emoji, while recent signings Aaron Connolly and Salis Abdul Samed added fire emojis to the post.
Friday marked Connolly’s first inclusion in a matchday squad under Le Bris. After the game, the coach discussed Connolly’s progress, stating: “We didn’t want to rush the process. He was on the bench and we thought he could be useful for the team, but it was too risky to bring him on. He probably needs to play 45 minutes with the U21s, and then maybe 60 or 65 in the next game.”
