“Bryan King Reacts: You on’t Believe Mason Melia’s Shocking Transfer Value Amid Tottenham Links
Bryan King has expressed his surprise at the valuation of Mason Melia amid transfer rumors linking him to Tottenham and the Premier League.
The former Spurs scout finds the reported figures astonishing for a player who has yet to prove himself. According to reptracker on X (October 15), Tottenham has made a bid for the 17-year-old St. Patrick’s player, whose club values him at £835,000, with a formal agreement expected in the coming months.
Several other Premier League clubs are also interested, but Melia won’t be able to leave St. Pat’s until next September, when he turns 18.
In an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, King noted that it’s unlikely any club would need to pay the full £835,000 upfront.
“These figures are common in today’s market,” he said. “There are compensation fees to consider. Paying that amount now seems excessive for an unproven player. A more realistic approach would be to offer a lower base fee with add-ons based on his future achievements at Spurs.”
King pointed out that while £835,000 is significant for a player of Melia’s age, it’s uncertain whether it would be paid in one lump sum or structured over time as he develops with the club.
In modern football, £835,000 might seem like a small amount, but spending that on a 17-year-old from Ireland with no English football experience carries risks. Although Daniel Levy likely wouldn’t miss the sum, the necessity of this signing remains questionable. Ange Postecoglou already has several young talents at the club who deserve opportunities, raising concerns that signing Melia could hinder their paths.
In other Tottenham news, Archie Gray is being touted as a potential replacement for an outgoing player.
