“Rob Edwards Shocks Fans with Bold Sunderland Promotion Prediction After Luton Town Showdown

Rob Edwards has shared an optimistic assessment of Sunderland’s promotion chances this season. The Luton Town manager praised Sunderland’s progress under Régis Le Bris after their Championship clash on Wednesday night, where the Black Cats emerged victorious with a 2-1 win, maintaining their position at the top of the league after 11 matches of the 2024-25 season.

Edwards faced Sunderland, then managed by Tony Mowbray, in the Championship play-off semi-finals two seasons ago, where Luton triumphed and secured promotion to the Premier League, although they were relegated back to the second tier at the end of last season.

After the game, when asked about Sunderland’s capabilities, Edwards remarked, “In many ways, they’re quite similar to the team we faced a couple of years ago, which I thought was outstanding. They have very skilled technical players, and while they were missing some key players during the semi-finals, like we are now, they are well-organized and currently riding a wave of momentum.”

He added, “You came very close to promotion a couple of years ago, and I see no reason why you won’t be in the mix again given your strong start and current form. We applied a lot of pressure tonight, but you handled it well and deserved the win.”
