Given the increasing number of fixtures, Postecoglou should consider making some changes to the lineup from the weekend, including benching one underperforming starter: James Maddison.
Why James Maddison Should Be Benched
There are two main reasons why Postecoglou might opt to rest Maddison for tonight’s match.

While AZ Alkmaar is a competent team, Postecoglou has ample talent at his disposal to secure three points. One promising young player who deserves a start in Maddison’s place is Lucas Bergvall, a highly regarded talent previously compared to Jude Bellingham.
Why Lucas Bergvall Should Start
Bergvall, who joined Spurs for around £8.5 million from Swedish club Djurgarden in February, has drawn comparisons to Bellingham due to his remarkable versatility and technical skills. Analyst Ben Mattinson highlighted Bergvall’s “raw and technical ability to adapt to any role,” supporting the notion that he is capable of excelling in multiple positions.
In his 67 appearances so far, the 18-year-old has played 16 games in central midfield, 15 as an attacking midfielder, and eight in defensive midfield, even featuring once as a center-forward and once on the left wing. This versatility backs up the claim that he can “do it all.”
Moreover, Bergvall’s output is impressive; last season he scored six goals and provided five assists in just 19 games, averaging a goal involvement every 1.72 games.
Given Maddison’s underwhelming performance and the need to rest him, it would be wise to remove him from the starting lineup this evening. This change would allow Bergvall to showcase his talent, furthering his development as he gains more first-team experience.
