“Richarlison’s Fiery Social Media Rant Sparks Outrage After Rodri’s Ballon d’Or Victory Over Vinicius Jr!
Brazilian forward Richarlison has criticized France Football for awarding the Ballon d’Or to Rodri instead of his international teammate Vinicius Jr.
The Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris was marked by surprise when Vinicius Jr, a strong favorite, lost to Manchester City’s Rodri. Ahead of the event, journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Vinicius would not be attending, having learned Rodri was set to win. Despite this, France Football’s Chief Editor claimed that no one from either City or Real Madrid was aware of the outcome.
Following the announcement, Vinicius received support from many players worldwide, including his Brazil teammate Richarlison. He initially reacted under the Ballon d’Or Instagram account, warning, “If Vini doesn’t win, SH*T IS GONNA GO DOWN.”
Richarlison later issued a full statement on Instagram backing Vinicius. “Every year, we all eagerly await individual awards,” he wrote alongside a photo of the two. “Today, all Brazilians who love football hoped to see one of our own win after so long. Unfortunately, due to criteria that no one can understand, the award did not come.”
While acknowledging Rodri as a “great player” deserving of recognition, Richarlison expressed that Vinicius’s loss was embarrassing, stating, “The only thing that lost today was football.” He added, “I remember Vini saying his dream was to see Brazil supporting him. That day is today! You’re a giant and the best in the world, kid! No trophy will change that. Keep moving forward and never back down! We’re with you!”
Richarlison’s statement carries weight in Brazil, as he has over 22 million followers on Instagram.
