Micky van de Ven was emotional as he had to leave the field due to injury early in Tottenham’s Carabao Cup match against Manchester City. He appeared to suffer a hamstring injury during a challenge and was quickly substituted for Destiny Udogie. Having already missed several months last season with a hamstring issue, Van de Ven was visibly distraught as he exited.
He was seen in tears while hobbling off, covering his face with his shirt. Former Everton midfielder Leon Osman cautioned on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra, “You don’t take any chances with hamstrings. They can only get worse.” Osman noted that losing Van de Ven would be a significant blow for Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou.
At just 23 years old, Van de Ven was playing at left-back, and his potential absence would be a major setback for Postecoglou, who has praised the defender’s impact since he joined from Wolfsburg last summer.
Postecoglou remarked on Van de Ven’s rapid development, saying, “He developed late but quickly. There were moments at Volendam when they were unsure about him. Once he grew physically and adapted to the Bundesliga, he excelled in his first Premier League season.”
Despite facing an injury setback, Postecoglou believes Van de Ven is continuously improving and will have a growing influence on the national team. Having played in various defensive positions, Van de Ven’s experience will boost his confidence, making him an essential part of both Tottenham and the Dutch national team.
