“I haven’t told him this actually, it was quite funny”- Archie Gray reveals ‘funny’ moment which happened with Leeds United fans when he returned to Yorkshire last month
Leeds United fans were disappointed to see Archie Gray leave the club in the summer following a standout breakthrough season. Archie, the latest member of the Gray family to make an impact at Elland Road, followed in the footsteps of his father Andy, grandfather Frank, and great-uncle Eddie, a club legend.
Although the £30million move to Tottenham seemed inevitable given Gray’s talent and potential, it was still a tough blow for Leeds supporters who had hoped to see the young player stay longer than just one season.
However, Leeds still have another Gray in the academy. Archie’s younger brother, Harry, has been progressing through the youth ranks and was included in the first-team’s pre-season preparations this summer.
Archie Gray Shares Humorous Encounter with Leeds Fans Archie also shared a funny story about being mistaken for his younger brother during a recent visit to Leeds. He recalled, “I haven’t told him this yet, but it was quite funny,” Archie said during an interview on Spurs’ YouTube channel. “A few weeks ago, I went to Leeds city center with Ethan Ampadu. Some Leeds fans came up to Ethan and asked for a photo, and then they turned to me and said, ‘Hi Harry.’ I thought, ‘No way, they’ve just called me Harry!’ I didn’t know what to think—it was quite the experience!”
How Archie and Harry Pushed Each Other Growing Up Although Harry is two years younger, Archie spoke about how their sibling rivalry helped them push each other to improve. “We were very competitive,” Archie explained. “When we were younger, it would often end in tears in the garden. He’d try to kick lumps out of me, and I’d try to do the same. It’s always good to have that competitive edge, especially when we’d go to family meals and get compared to each other. It was always like, ‘I need to do better than him,’ and he’d have the same mentality.”
Harry has been sidelined with an injury since his pre-season involvement with the first team and has yet to make an appearance this season. Meanwhile, Archie has featured regularly for Spurs in the Carabao Cup and Europa League, making five Premier League appearances off the bench so far this term.
