Speaking to Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, Bruno expressed his joy playing for the Magpies, revealing how much he enjoys being an “idol” at the club, captaining Newcastle, and playing in the Premier League.
Reflecting on his previous links to Manchester City, Bruno acknowledged that the interest was flattering, as it confirmed he’s performing at a “high level.” However, he dismissed it as nothing more than rumors, particularly after City did not trigger his release clause earlier in the summer.
Regarding his conversations with Guardiola, Bruno shared that their interaction was brief and occurred after a post-match interview at the Etihad last March. He praised Guardiola’s work, and Pep complimented his performances, but it was nothing beyond a casual exchange.
“I believe that at my club, I am an idol and I have a lot of respect,” Bruno said. “I’m the captain of Newcastle, and if you’d asked me three years ago, my biggest dream would have been to play in the Premier League. Playing, being an idol, being captain—it’s something wonderful. I really love Newcastle.”
On the Man City rumors and his talks with Guardiola, he added: “Of course, having Manchester City’s interest shows that I’m playing at a high level, but it was nothing more than interest. I know that Guardiola likes my style of play; it’s normal for great coaches to admire your game. We spoke once after an interview—he praised my work, I praised his—but that’s all.”
While Bruno is flattered by the reported interest from City and the praise from Guardiola, he remains committed to Newcastle, where he is clearly enjoying life. With a contract running until 2028, the 27-year-old is thriving at St James’ Park and hopes to help the club secure regular European football and, one day, win a trophy to cement his legacy among the passionate Newcastle fanbase.
