“OH NO, his time is over at Stadium of Light, fans will now be happy to see him out”- Shocking Fan Poll: 62% of Sunderland Supporters want this Player gone in January. Find out who
When Sunderland signed Adil Aouchiche from Lorient last year, few could have predicted how quickly his fortunes on Wearside would take a downturn. After featuring in 28 matches during his debut season in England, the French midfielder has found himself on the fringes of new head coach Regis Le Bris’ plans this term, managing just 93 minutes of first-team action across all competitions so far.
Given his current lack of involvement, questions have arisen about Aouchiche’s long-term future at the Stadium of Light. However, Le Bris remains hopeful, insisting that Aouchiche, along with teammate Abdoullah Ba, still has the opportunity to fight for a spot in the matchday squad.
Speaking after both players featured for the U21s recently, the Sunderland manager explained: “With the U21s, we have to manage the age limits because there’s a cap on how many older players can be selected—three, I believe. So we had to be careful in our choices. It’s the same for Abdoullah, Adil, and others; if a position becomes available, they can work to earn it. I don’t forget any player. Everyone can play an important role over the course of a long season. If a player works hard, fits into the team, the game model, and the project, they can definitely play.”
Whether Aouchiche will be able to work his way back into Le Bris’ plans, however, remains uncertain. Recently, The Echo surveyed fans on what they believe should happen to the 22-year-old in the January transfer window, with results revealing a divided opinion.
Around 40% of supporters are open to the idea of Sunderland selling Aouchiche in the new year, while 38% feel he should be given another chance to prove himself at the club. The remaining 22% are in favor of a loan move as the most sensible option. At this point, there is no clear indication of what Sunderland’s plans for Aouchiche will be.
